Being an Older Mother: Metamorphoses of Late Motherhood from the Foundation of Czechoslovakia up to the Present Abstract The doctoral thesis gives a macro-structural view of the metamorphoses of late motherhood, here defined as motherhood of women aged over 35, as they have occurred in the Czech lands between 1920 and 2015. The study examines to which extent the reflection of late motherhood in selected professional and feminine / lifestyle periodicals converges with the findings derived from demographic data analysis. For this purpose, a mixed methods research has been conducted to link the conclusions from quantitative analysis of demographic data (demographic analysis and binary logistic regression) to those from qualitative and quantitative media analyses (discourse and content analyses). As the study shows, the development of late motherhood in the Czech lands varies across a range of possible perceptions in the media, levels and fertility rates. The thesis shows a strong coherence between the perception of late motherhood in the media and conclusions drawn from the demographic data analysis, which are consistent for most of the observed years. According to the results of the analysis, with some simplification, five different types of late motherhood are determined. The first type, the "Experienced...

Jiroušová, Martina ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Bartoňová, Dagmar (referee)
Seasonal profile of nuptiality, natality and mortality in the Czech republic and international comparison Abstract The aim of this thesis is to capture changes in seasonality of nuptiality, natality and mortality in the Czech Republic and the factors that influence the seasonality. Despite the fact that these changes have been monitored since the 16th (nuptiality) and the 17th century (natality and mortality), the thesis focuses on the period from 1950s to 2012. Czech Republic is then compared with six other countries, with shorter reference period (2005-2012). Seasonal profile is represented by seasonal indexes and their variability is analyzed using the coefficient of variation. Seasonality of marriages was, especially in the 1950s, characterized by the accumulation of marriages in the last months of the year and in April, with later shift to the summer. The minimum was at the beginning of the period in the first quarter of the year and in May and later joined them low values in November and December. Due to superstitions about unhappy marriages, May was a month with a very low seasonal index throughout the period. The highest values of seasonal indexes of live births used to occur in the first half of the year and then shifted, as in the case of weddings, to the summer months. The minimum values did not...

The reconciliation of work and family is very important for lots of parents and sufficient offer of preschool care can help it. However, the demand for preschool institutions exceeded supply, as was shown in accordance with obtained data. It was also found out by the insight into the outcomes of surveys that the vast majority of respondents do not think that a preschool child of working mother would be suffering. In the future, should not only expand the capacity of childcare facilities as well as other options for facilitation of reconciling work and family life, such as better offer of flexible working hours. Keywords: birth rate, decomposition, preschool facilities, financial support for families with children, surveys,...

Jus, Denise ; Barth, Boris (advisor) ; Mlsna, Petr (referee)
In recent years Germany had to deal with demographical changes on his own territory, pointing an increasingly aging population and on the other hand with a low birth rate that could not normalize this trend. Family policy deals with these issues because one of its current goals is to raise birth rates and ensure and strengthen the position of women in the market. As a possible solution, the family policy sees it in the contribution of men to the share of parental leave. Therefore this diploma thesis will have this topic in the focus. The turning point for Germany and especially for fathers was the year 2007 when the so called "Elterngeld" was introduced with the goal to encourage men to take parental leave and support the woman with raising children. Since the man is now seen as one of possible...
